Rodney Hide says sorry

Newstalk ZB November 8, 2009, 5:11 pm

A very apologetic Rodney Hide has finally fronted up over his taxpayer-funded overseas trips with his girlfriend.

The ACT Leader says he got it wrong and he wants to apologise to the public, his colleagues and most importantly the people of Epsom.

Earlier in the week, Mr Hide paid back $10,000 of taxpayers money he used to pay for a private holiday to Hawaii. He is now also going to pay back the $11,000 he spent to take his girlfriend Louise Crome to London.

Mr Hide has further promised he will never again use taxpayers' money for any overseas holiday.

Sorry Rodney but you lost face on this one. You always used to fight for transparency, which attracted huge admiration from a majority, but you finally succumbed to being one of those you always sought to expose. We dont mind if you take your girlfriend away with you - just pay for it yourself. Lots of us have stressful jobs and separation from our partners - if you cant hack the job - leave it.
