A visitor to the Hawke's Bay Regional Prison has been arrested after prison staff allegedly found cannabis and methamphetamine in her car.
Police were called after the drugs were found in a handbag under the driver's seat during a routine inspection of vehicles.
Prison Manager George Massingham says members of the public can come under intense pressure to try smuggle drugs into prison for family and friends.
He says this should be a warning to others that they risk getting arrested and will be banned from visiting the prison for up to 12 months.
