Turia breaks silence over Harawira

Newstalk ZB November 11, 2009, 4:22 pm

Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia has finally broken her silence over Hone Harawira's trip to Paris and the expletive filled email that followed.

Mrs Turia says she accepts people are really upset by what Mr Harawira wrote and the Maori Party has been flooded with abusive and angry emails in return.

She says the past week has been very tough and she describes what Mr Harawira wrote as very distressing.

Mrs Turia believes his behaviour has been unacceptable and has done considerable damage to the Maori Party.

repsonse to First L. I'm trouble with your e-mail. On the one hand you say that Hone said what most Maori are thinking and don't say but on the other hand you married a Pakeha. If you truly don't like what Pakeha have done through the generations and truly belived what Hone spouts about Pakeha and our short coming, why did you marry one. Does your partner realsise how you truly feel about us or did they marry you out of guilt and trying to apologise for the fact t ...

josephk What the hell are you talking about. On MARCH the 10th 2010 you should all be lined up and shot!!!!! As your mate HONE said. If you had it your way you would still be running around in grass skirts eating each other... As Garryj said Get off your arses and do some work, stop blugging off the Government. P.S Stop leaving the government with the burden of your offspring. You have already done enough to ruin our country.

This topic has dragged up some pretty emotive stuff from all quarters, I have been following all threads and the overwhelming sentiment is that Harawira has taken a huge backward step in not only race relations, but how we can move ahead as a nation, his own people are turning against him, that says volumes, if he doesn't realise he has offended most of the country then he deserves to go.

Whatever happened to the initial custodians of NZ? ........Isn't it time we left the past to lie in peace (wether wrong or right) and move on! We are what we make of ourselves -with input from friends and family.I'm sick to death of hearing all the never ending repeat payout claims - all based on improvements(unless Wakas were made of Pine!) And finally - no I'm not a rascist - just your average citizen whos had a gut full of the spirit of NZ being eroded.

I am Third Generation Maori.I'm Embarrased about those who "Claim to speak on behalf of Maoridom",or write e-mails that are racist toward another ethnicity whether;White,Yellow,Red,Black,or Polka Dotted.
