A woman woke up in hospital today with no recollection of a crash that left her with serious injuries and killed her friend.
Jacinta Waipouri, 19, died after she was hit by a car when she sat in the middle of the road while arguing with her boyfriend.
Helen Dando, 24, ended up in hospital with a broken femur, right arm and left wrist and a cracked pelvis.
She recently woke up with no memory of the crash.
Her father, Neville Dando, explained the crash to her this morning.
“She can’t believe it basically,” he told the New Zealand Herald.
It is understood Waipouri and her boyfriend Mark Tasker argued over a text message.
She was in the car with Tasker and Dando but demanded it to stop.
She sat in the middle of the eastbound lane on the way back to her Pukekohe home.
As the others were trying to persuade her to get up, a car came round the corner and hit both the women.
Police are yet to announce whether charges will be laid against the driver of the car, who braked and swerved but could not avoid the women.
