East Kimberley residents put pens to paper on Tuesday night to play their role in summing up the nation for the Census.

Residents were required to fill out their Census forms to provide the Australian Bureau of Statistics with a snapshot of the Australian population.

The survey aims to accurately measure the number of people in Australia on Census night, their main characteristics and where they live.

Census information is used to allocate funding for roads, schools, parks and hospitals. Forms were to be collected on Wednesday.

The first results from the 2011 Census will be released in June 2012.
