The mother of a child who was placed inside a washing machine as a prank says she will press charges against the babysitter responsible for the one-year old boy at the time of the incident.

Video surfaced earlier this week showing the toddler being placed inside a laundromat washing machine as a prank, not realizing that the door would lock automatically, trapping the child inside and seriously endangering his life.

The man placing the child the in the machine is unknown to the mother, Sakia David of New Jersey, who said on the US Today Show "I left my child in her custody. She sat there and watched him put my baby in the washer, so it’s both of their fault. I don’t care how much you say how much it’s not her fault, it’s her fault too."

The child was treated in hospital for scrapes and bruises, but no major injuries.

Authorities have insisted they will not press charges as a trial would not be the best use of the state's time and money. They further say that there was no criminal intent visible in the footage, and that those responsible were "stupid, not criminal."
