United Future New Zealand

United Future describes itself as a "centre party" and was formed in November 2000 when two parties, United NZ and Future NZ, joined forces.

United Future won a single seat in the 2008 election which is held by Peter Dunne, an electorate MP.

Along with ACT and the Maori Party, United Future is a support partner to the National Government.

United Future is consulted on legislation, major policy issues and broad budget details.

The party is led by Hon. Peter Dunne, who is currently the Minister of Revenue and the Associate Minister of Health and has been a member of parliament since 1984.

Party Policy

United Future’s policy focuses on placing family at the centre of decision making.

The party wants to introduce income splitting and extend paid parental leave to 13 months.

They would also start one-stop shop family service centres which would provide health checks, early childhood education, relationship counselling, benefit information and budget advice.

The party’s policy is to encourage home ownership and sell off highly valued state housing.

United Future wants to review housing tenancies so problematic tenants can be evicted more easily.

United Future policy stresses accountability and “plain English”, particularly in relation to government spending.
