West Coast mining disaster
There is now no hope that 29 men trapped in the Pike River Coal mine since Friday will emerge alive.
A second large explosion on Wednesday afternoon destroyed any hopes of survivors, with the build-up of gas that prevented any rescue efforts resulting in the explosion.
