5. Mary Schapiro, United States

Schapiro is the first woman to chair the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Tasked with regulating the stock market, Schapiro has fought to re-establish public confidence and has argued for higher penalties. Her nomination for the position came from President Barack Obama.
