Urewera raids

The greatest combined cost has been the case against the 18 people arrested in the Urewera raids. Figures released to the Herald put the total somewhere around $3.9 million. This includes $1.16m paid in legal aid for the four who stood trial in the High Court in Auckland this year. The police provided an aggregate figure of $500,462 for the case which went though the District Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
