Police Commissioner Peter Marshall says he's "thankful" that shots fired at close range have missed a police officer who stopped a car in central Auckland. But Mr Marshall has condemned the small element within society who resort to such "mindless violence". The policeman escaped with burns to his forearms but was otherwise unhurt in the incident which has sparked a hunt for a man with gang connections.
