The government should step in and stop schools threatening parents with debt collectors if they don't pay "voluntary" donations, the Green Party says. Documents obtained by the Dominion Post show some schools have been warned for not being upfront about some fees being optional, while others have been caught trying to withhold privileges until they were paid. By law, children have the right to a free education from age five to 19.
