People are going to great lengths to catch and kill wild ducks in Auckland's suburban parks, for food and for fun. Auckland Waikato Fish and Game northern wildlife manager John Dyer says people are using bows and arrows, fish-hooks, nets, dogs, and even air rifles to do so. He says people can face a fine under the Wildlife Act of up to $5000, and a conviction which can prevent them from entering the US. "We've seen people get out of late model Mercedes (vehicles), and fairly exclusive golf clubs, to see if they can try and catch ducks using fishing line and a fish-hook baited with bread."
