Four small courts will be closed and nine others used only for hearings under changes announced by the government. Courts Minister Chester Borrows says crime rates have fallen and there are 20 per cent fewer criminal summary cases compared with 2008. The use of new technology is saving more than 90,000 court hours a year and many small district courts are empty three or four days a week, he says.
