Independce Day, on the 4th of July, is a big deal in the United States, it's where they all gather and drink plenty of Budweiser, roast whole pigs on an oversized barbeque, and celebrate their enormous amounts of freedom by shooting their automatic rifles in to the air.
They also have fireworks displays. In typically American style, they tend to last about 20 minutes at a time. That's aside from the Big Bay Boom in San Diego, where an eighteen-minute fireworks display was reduced down to fifteen seconds due to a technical glitch.
One of the largest 4th of July displays in the country was lit up by a violent display of light and colour that left many revelers wondering if something serious had happened.
It's still unclear why all of the fireworks went up simultaneously, but it still looked pretty awesome either way.

I agree with Rincewind3's commentsabout the length of the posting. OK, occasionally the fireworks displays in America have a problem. Most go off as planned. During the War of 1812, the "Star Spangled Banner" was written, where it was noted that, after all the rockets had been shot, our flag "was still there. Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave......over the land of the free....and the home of the brave". A magnificent song. Alot of blood has been shed over the years in defence of our freedom. I just hope our current adminstration doesn't succeed in shoving us into socialism. It would be tragic and make all those who defended freedom die in vain (including my own uncle during WW2).
ReplyI think its Great that AMERICA can express itself and actually have fun, What do Kiwis do, Get DRUNK, Beat up thier misses, OH thats right there is NO freedom here in this place, its all being TAXED away.
ReplyCapitalism - where you tell people they are free Socialism/Communism - where you tell people they not free In both cases you never free, it's simply semantics, because the actions of those in charge is to limit your freedom either way!
Reply'enormous amounts of freedom'...? They obviously haven't read the Patriot Act.
