Salty clam becomes internet sensation

On The Radar | View Archive July 12, 2012, 3:24 pm

What's the world coming to?

The latest viral 'sensation' really seems to be dredging the pits of despair.

A video detailing a live clam 'licking' salt from a kitchen table has spread around the world.

Sitting atop a table with ordinary sea salt strewn around it, the clam appears to extend a slimy tongue outwards and lap up the granules, before withdrawing back inside its shell.

According to the Daily Mail, Miriam Goldstein, a graduate Oceanography student, believes the gooey appendage is actually the clam's 'foot' searching about for a place to dig a hole.

Goldstein isn't positive though, as she thinks that the salt on the table could be hurting the clam, causing it to withdraw back inside its casing.

Whatever the purpose of this seafood salt-searching, it's super-freaky to watch, but still one minute and twenty-two seconds of your life that you won't get back.
