Personally I've yet to become a fan, having never watched a single episode, but that could all be about to change with the start of a brand new season featuring a brand new batch of characters.
And as the Guardian demi-god Charlie Brooker says, "anyone of any age could tune into Skins and draw something from it. Which makes it weird. And somewhat wonderful."
In this new series we bid farewell to the show's previous stars and welcome a whole new generation of precocious teens including "passionate, political and principled" Naomi, "sweet and kooky" Pandora and skateboarding, weed-smoking Freddie among others.
The drama centres around Effy, the little sis of previous lead Tony (played by About A Boy's Nicholas Hoult), who assumes the position of queen bee. Or should that be queen beeyatch?
Brit funny folk Mackenzie Crook, Justine Edwards and DJ Scott Mills are all set to make an appearance, while Harry Enfield returns as Effy's dad.
And even though it's focussed on teenagers, those in the know say this is a compelling, mature watch; The Age dubs it "compulsory viewing for teenagers as much as parents of teens", while NME went as far as labelling Skins "the most exciting show in a generation."
Season three of Skins starts tonight (Monday) at 9.30pm on C4, after Rocked the Nation 2.
