Maybe you just cannot eff with tan lines or perhaps you have another reason for enjoying nude beaches. Either way, nude beaches have been around forever and are worth a visit at least once in your lifetime (bucket list item, if you will). If you’re looking for good clothing-optional nude beaches, you can’t go wrong with any of these recommendations:

Quick disclaimer though: While many of the spots on this list are legally sanctioned nude beaches (read: legal), other beaches roll with more of a “bathing suits aren’t really enforced” here clause. So def do your research and maybs bring a cover-up or bathing suit just in case.

Best Nude Beaches Within the U.S.

1. Black’s Beach, San Diego

While nudism technically isn’t legal here, it’s kind of an unspoken rule that Black’s Beach is basically a nude beach and has been for decades, according to Robert Arends, a spokesperson for San Diego Tourism. Black’s Beach is also known for great surfing conditions (nudists are called “nakes” by the surfers, says Arends) and a scenic hike that also conveniently delineates the nude part from the not-nude part.

2. Haulover Nude Beach, North Miami

This officially nude-sanctioned beach is a favorite of the American Association for Nude Recreation, or AANR. It’s a super-popular spot that gets more than 7,000 visitors a day. And while Haulover Nude is just a small part of the larger Haulover beach, it’s estimated that visitors to the nude Haulover Beach account for 66 percent to 85 percent of beachgoers.

3. Little Beach Maui

Little Beach is another suggestion vetted by the AANR and can be found after a bit of a trek—which is scenic and makes the actual beach experience that much more rewarding. It’s “perfect for people who have not tried nude beaches, as they can keep their clothes on without getting suspicious looks until they decide to get naked or not,” says Flavio Serreti, manager of Soprano Villas and a Little Beach enthusiast who has visited many times.

4. Gunnison Beach, Sandy Hook, New Jersey

Another AANR top pick, Gunnison Beach is New Jersey’s only legally sanctioned nude beach. While clothing is optional, one beachgoer told the New Jersey Star-Ledger that those with clothes attract more attention than those without, so be prepared to show some skin if you wanna fit in.

5. Collins Beach, Sauvie Island, Oregon

Closing off the AANR top picks for legally sanctioned nude beaches in America is Collins Beach on Sauvie Island Oregon, which has been clothing-optional since the ’70s. The beach is a mile long and open from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day—great hours if you wanna wake up to a nude sunrise.

6. Couples Tower Isle, Jamaica

Jamaica’s first all-inclusive resort also features a nude beach on a private island. Couples Tower Isle also has a pool with a swim-up bar, and transportation to the island is provided daily via small boat from the resort. Because being nude, but like, on a private island, is really the ultimate luxury.

7. Elia Beach, Mykonos, Greece

If you wanna party in Mykonos, baby, stop by Elia Beach, which is also known worldwide for being LGBTQ+ friendly. It's not as loud or crazy as some of the more famous Mykonos beach clubs like Scorpios or Namos, but you also can't go nude at those places, so it's still worth a visit!

8. Saline, St. Barths

Nudity isn't legal-legal here, but it's more of an "unenforced" thing if you choose to go full birthday suit. While many beaches in St. Bart's allow tourists to go topless, Saline is a particular favorite of fully nude sunbathers.

9. Hanlan's Point, Toronto

A quick ferry across Toronto on the Toronto Islands is Hanlan's Point, which was officially recognized by the city as "clothing optional" in 2002. To access it, you follow a quick trail from the ferry drop off point to the beach. There are also dunes and bushes for some privacy should you want.

10. Hedonism II Jamaica

If a nude beach isn't enough and you want to go even nuder, further (aka staying naked in other parts of a resort), Hedonism II is your jam. The entire resort is clothing-optional, adult-only, and all-inclusive (triple threat). The resort is part of the Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Jamaica, but it's the only part of the beach where public nudity is allowed. You can be nude anywhere on the property, except for dining and gym areas (good move, TBH).
