A 16-year-old girl from Kugluktuk died after she was hit by a loader on July 18, RCMP say.

The driver, a 37-year-old man from Kugluktuk, was working for the local municipality during the time of the incident.

RCMP said they received a call around 10:40 a.m. about an incident involving a loader and a pedestrian.

When they arrived, they found the girl had died from her injuries.

"The driver of the loader was unharmed, and remained on scene and co-operated with investigators," Nunavut RCMP Cpl. George Henrie told CBC in an email.

Police have not released the names of either individual.

Henrie said he could not comment further because the investigation is ongoing.
