SINGAPORE — Mark your calendar for another long weekend in 2022.

The changes in the 2022 public holidays calendar come after Singapore Islamic authority Muis revised the two Hari Raya dates next year.

Based on the astronomical calculation with revised criteria, Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji are slated to fall on 3 May 2022 (Tuesday) and 10 July 2022 (Sunday) respectively, Muis in a statement on Thursday (21 October).

The dates are a day later than Muis’ previous announcements in April for the two public holidays.

With the revised date for Hari Raya Haji, there are now six long weekends next year instead of five previously.

“The highest Islamic authorities of Brunei Darussalam, Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia and Republic of Singapore have agreed to adopt revised criteria of the astronomical calculation for the determination of the Islamic calendar from year 2022 onwards. The agreement was reached among member countries after new findings emerged over years of research,” Muis said.

For a public holiday that falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is also a public holiday for working persons whose rest days are on Sundays.

Apart from 10 July 2022 (Sunday) Hari Raya Haji, the other public holidays that fall on the long weekends next year are 15 April 2022 (Friday) Good Friday, 1 May 2022 (Sunday) Labour Day, 15 May 2022 (Sunday) Vesak Day, 24 October 2022 (Monday) Deepavali, and 25 December 2022 (Sunday) Christmas Day.
