A 72-year-old man is dead after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street Monday morning in Dartmouth.

Halifax Regional Police say officers responded shortly after 7 a.m. to a report of the collision, which took place in a marked crosswalk between Victoria Road and Chappell Street.

The man was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 30-year-old man, was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.
