NZ Newswire December 3, 2012, 6:42 am

A 50-year-old man has been arrested after four people were left with moderate to serious injuries when they were allegedly attacked with a weapon outside a house in Invercargill.

Police were called to the scene of the assault just after midnight on Sunday.

The victims, two men and two women, were taken to Southland Hospital for treatment, but they have all since been discharged, police say.

The arrested man will face a number of serious assault related charges when he appears in Invercargill District Court on Monday.

In a separate incident, a 36-year-old man suffered moderate injuries when he was stabbed at an Invercargill house on Sunday morning.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and will appear in Invercargill District Court on assault-related charges on Monday.

More serious charges are possible, police say.

Invercargill police are also investigating the attempted abduction of a 17-year-old girl in the city.

The girl was approached by a man, in his 50s or 60s, with grey or silver hair, who tried to get her into his white van.

She managed to run off, but police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the incident.
