A pregnant passenger and her driver has evaded a speeding ticket after pretending to give birth in the car.

Police were about to use road spikes when a male driver was seen driving dangerously and clocked speeding at more than 146km/h along State Highway 29.

When the driver pulled over, a 23-year-old woman, with her feet on the dashboard, was claiming she was giving birth and was quickly rushed to Tauranga Hospital by ambulance.

However, moments later the woman discharged herself and escaped into the waiting car, which then sped through red lights.
