Boozing pig 'Swino' still at large

The booze-swilling swine from the De Grey River campsite that made headlines around the world is still on a bender and living the dream at large.

The hog and his shenanigans made for the Pilbara's top story last week, turning up in news bulletins across Australia, the UK and America.

The boorish beast reportedly downed 18 beers, which it stole from campers, got into a beef with a cow and took a dip in the river, before raiding nearby bins in search of a feed.

ABC listeners even voted to name the famous porker, now affectionately known as "Swino".

Main Roads maintenance co-ordinator Mick Edwards told the _Telegraph _ the pig was still causing havoc, more than a week after the initial pilfering was reported.

"One of the patrol guys took a photo of him and then he went back across the river to his little island," he said.

"Our staff were out there last week and apparently he had gotten back into someone's annexe and done another rummage through.

"He's still at large and creating a little bit of a headache with his hunt for alcohol."

When asked if he thought Swino had taken a liking to late-night boozing Mr Edwards replied "I think so, he's had a taste now".

He also called for would-be Swino owners to come forward and take the hog to a good home.

"I've heard rumours there used to be a piggery out there and they let the pigs go - I'm not sure how true that is," he said.

"It'd be nice if we could find someone who has pigs who can try and catch him and take him away.

"Whoever thinks they might own him, if they want to come and take him back that'd be good."
