Man charged after allegedly evading police

A 26-year-old man has been bitten by a police dog after he allegedly failed to stop for police on the M1 at Mudgeeraba overnight.

It's believed the car failed to stop at about 9pm(AEST) when officers tried to intercept it for a traffic offence on the M1 near Merrimac.

Police didn't pursue the vehicle but came across it later abandoned on the M1 in construction lanes.

The car was searched and suspected stolen property was allegedly found.

Multiple police crews including a dog squad member searched the area nearby and found the driver in bushland.

The offender sustained a minor puncture wound when he was apprehended by a police dog.

The 26-year-old has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, serious assault police, fail to stop, possession of tainted property, possession of a restricted item and possession of an explosive.

He's due to appear in court today.
