Alleged drunk driver goes on dangerous joyride

A police helicopter has captured an alleged drunk driver's high-speed joyride through Brisbane's south.

Dramatic vision shows a man speeding around Rocklea, Nathan, Sunnybank and Salisbury, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

Police say the suspect, 34, stole a vehicle from a home in Rocklea around 11.40am (AEST) on Wednesday.

He then allegedly drove through busy morning traffic, repeatedly mounting the footpath, crossing onto the wrong side of the road and crashing into other vehicles.

After ramming into the back of a parked car, the man hopped out and stole a second vehicle, which he later crashed.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot but was cornered and arrested by police.

He has been charged with a string of offenses and will face court on Wednesday afternoon.
