Bikini-clad off-duty police officer tackles brazen thief in Sweden

A pickpocket got more than he bargained for after targeting a group of friends in Sweden, forcing a bikini-clad off-duty police officer to restrain him in a rather unconventional arrest.

Mikaela Kellner was in a park in Stockholm sunbathing with friends before she was forced to tackle the brazen man to the ground, according to The Local.

"My initial intervention while wearing a bikini during my 11 years as police," she wrote on a picture of the tackle on social media.

Ms Kellner has been a police officer for more than a decade.

She said the man approached her group of friends, claiming he was trying to sell magazines for the homeless.

However, after they declined to buy anything he began behaving strangely.

Acting on instinct, Ms Kellner reportedly told her friends to watch their belongings.

It wasn't until the man had left that one of Ms Kellner's friends noticed their phone had disappeared.

She suspected he had used the magazines to cover a phone and take it without attracting attention.

Ms Kellner immediately gave chase once her friend realised what had happened.

"There was no time, so I ran after him, maybe 15 metres or so," she told The Local.

Fortunately, another one of Ms Kellner's friends is also a police officer.

Together, the pair held onto the man and called other officers for help.

"I just acted on instinct and didn't think about it so much until after we had pinned him down," Ms Kellner said.

"When I sat there I looked over at our other two friends who are not police officers and realized that it probably looked pretty funny."

"But I would have stepped in no matter my outfit," she told The Local.

She reportedly said the that she has had lots of positive feedback about her response: "I mainly just wanted to raise awareness of how cunning these people are, almost like magicians."

And as a message to her Instagram followers: "Beware of pickpockets, keep track of your valuables !!"
