'Absolutely disgusted': Wife of All Black hits out at club's fans

The wife of All-Blacks star Julian Savea has lashed out at abusive critics of her husband on social media.

Savea has a year left on his contract with French club Toulon, but club president Mourad Boudjellal has said the New Zealander is “no longer welcome” after the team’s 10th loss of the season.

Toulon fans took to social media to attack the Kiwi after the loss.

He was labelled a ‘fat man’ who had bigger breasts than his wife.

Another comment said they wished his mother got cancer.

Savea’s wife, Fatima, revealed the extent of the abuse in a post to Twitter, saying she was “absolutely disgusted by this s***.”

“And people wonder why mental health in rugby had become a big problem,” she wrote.

“Take a minute to be considerate of people’s feelings instead of bashing them behind a keyboard or phone screen.

With rugby you are only as good as your team is. It’s not an individual sport, it’s a team sport and sometimes you can be let down by your team.

But that shouldn’t give anyone the right to ridicule a player and their livelihood because no one knows what these players go through on a daily basis and the struggles they face.”

Savea’s immediate future with Toulon is cloudy after the wing was heavily criticised in the French press by his club’s president.

Boudjellal told RMC Sport he hadn’t got the player he thought he was going to.

“I’m going to ask for a DNA test. It is not Savea that we recruited but ‘Savéapas,” he said.

He must have been changed on the plane.

If I were him, I would apologise and I would go home. When we reach this level of play, we must apologise and leave.

I told him he was released and he was no longer welcome at Toulon! He has got a year left on his contract. He can do what he wants.

“A year can be long for the club but especially for the player… For me he is released.

“His identical twin brother looks very similar to him… We will have at least learnt that certain physical similarities are very striking.

“Sometimes, some players come for the wrong reasons.

This Toulon team has done a lot of bad to the club.”

Toulon dropped to a 6-10 record after a 19-10 lost to Agen on Saturday.
