Miss Sherlock actress Yuko Takeuchi dies, aged 40

Japanese actress Yuko Takeuchi has passed away at the age of 40 according to numerous reports.

The Japan Times reports the actress and mother-of-two was found by her husband, actor Taiki Nakabayashi, 35, in their Tokyo apartment on Sunday at around 2am.

The publication reports the actress was taken to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has begun an investigation, however, it's believed she took her own life.

Yuko's talent agency Stardust Promotion Inc. said in a statement: "It came all of a sudden, and we are all stunned and saddened by the news."

The actress shared a son with her ex-husband Nakamura Shido and welcomed a baby boy with Taiki earlier this year.

Yuko made her film debut in the 1996 drama Cyborg and went on to star in numerous films and TV shows.

She starred in Japanese shows such as Romance and Pride, Miss Sherlock, Queen and Innocent Days.

The actress also worked on a number of films including Midnight Eagle, Cape Nostalgia, The Magnificient Nine and Ringu, a remake of the 2002 horror film The Ring.

Yuko was also nominated for the Japanese Academy Award for Best Actress in a leading role for three years in a row from 2004.

Her final feature film The Confidence Man JP: Princess was released in July this year.
