An eyebrow-raising trend that turned heads at Coachella has found its way Down Under, and is making waves at the Splendour in the Grass music festival in Byron Bay.

The annual three-day festival got off to a chilly start on Friday, but that didn’t stop this skin-baring trend from making itself felt.

It was every cowboy and girl for themselves as a pantless rodeo atmosphere swept the festival, with leather chaps and not much else being the flavour of the day.

It comes on the back of the daring ‘glitterboob trend’ of the Summer music festivals, which ruffled some feathers and boasted some as well.

A Coachella import

The trend initially popped up at the Coachella festival in the US, with disgraced beauty guru James Charles and others rocking the cheeky look.

Coachella is a Summer festival, meaning the brazen look is probably a lot more comfortable, but the chilly weather hasn’t stopped Aussies from embracing the trend wholeheartedly.

Music festival goes West

Where assless chaps may once have been an item reserved for strip clubs and bachelorette parties, they were out in force, along with enough fringes and buckles to saddle one thousand horses.

The Wild West met the intergalactic in several interpretations of the trend.

With the festival based in northern NSW’s Byron Bay, balmy daytime temperatures have been kind on the more daring looks, but as temperatures drop to 10 degrees overnight, there may have been a chilly bottom or two keeping warm in the mosh.

The country-style wasn’t only confined to the bottom-baring pants however, from cowboy hats, to buckled boots, to faux cowskin, the music lovers mustered an impressive display of Wild West-chic.
