Anthony Albanese caught in unguarded viral moment by cameraman
While attending a Lunar New Year event in Melbourne Anthony Albanese wanted to show everyone his tie.
Anthony Albanese has been dubbed "Australia's dad" after his "proud" moment was captured on camera at a Lunar New Year celebration in Melbourne on Saturday.
The prime minister was filmed excitedly showing off his crimson tie while taking part in the annual Chinese New Year festivities in Box Hill, about 14km east of the city's CBD.
Chinese New Year celebrations officially started on January 22 and will end on February 1. 2023 is the year of the rabbit, so the tie, featuring hundreds of little rabbits, was "perfect" for the event, Mr Albanese was heard telling cameraman Victor Grey who shared the footage on Tiktok.
Mr Grey joked the PM appeared happier than when he won the election. He said Mr Albanese displayed "some premium chuffed dad vibes" throughout the festivities and it's all thanks to his tie.
At the start of the video, Mr Albanese is seen sitting on stage between two women, both donning red dresses for the occasion. The PM took a moment to show off his tie to one woman sitting beside him, lifting it up for her to see the details. They both erupted with laughter before a chuffed PM turns to his other side. He showed the next woman the chosen accessory before offering up a smirk.
But he wasn't quite done flaunting his statement tie it seems as he then invited another man to have a look. The man responded with an eager thumbs up, an indication of his approval.
"He's so pleased, look at that face," Mr Grey said, zooming in on Mr Albanese. "He just wants to show it off to everybody".
Albanese explains his tie choice
Mr Grey took the chance to question the prime minister about his motives and asked whether the fashion choice was intentional or if he was "just supporting the Rabbitohs". Mr Albanese is a proud supporter of the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team and is often spotted donning his team's sporting attire.
"No, it was conscious," an excited Mr Albanese shot back. "It's red with bunnies. Perfect," he explained as he walked through the crowd cradling a stuffed rabbit toy.
Australian PM praised as 'wholesome'
My Grey's followers praised the prime minister for his "wholesome" display of enthusiasm with some calling the nation's leader "adorable".
"I have no doubt he found it and went ‘Oh my God this is perfect’ and he just wanted someone to appreciate it too," one person shared in the comments.
"I just love how human he is," said another.
A third said they love seeing people "this happy about things and not being afraid to show it" adding, "we need more of this in the world".
Meanwhile, a fourth dubbed the prime minister "Australia's dad" and said it's "what we desperately need".
