Anti-vaxxer radio host who mocked AIDS victims dies from Covid
A conservative radio show host who spread false claims about coronavirus vaccines has died from Covid-19.
Bob Enyart, 62, from Denver in the US state of Colorado, died recently from the highly contagious virus, his friend and co-host Fred Williams wrote on Facebook.
Enyart was a pastor at Denver Bible Church but also hosted an online radio show called Real Science Radio. He referred to himself as “America’s most popular self-proclaimed right-wing, religious fanatic, homophobic, anti-choice talk show host”.
He was also staunchly opposed to Covid-19 vaccines and restrictions brought on by the pandemic.
Enyart lodged a successful lawsuit against the state of Colorado over a mask mandate and occupancy limit in churches, The Denver Post reported.
He said he and his wife would not be getting Covid vaccines and called the makers of Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines “child killers”.
Both ended up catching the virus.
Apart from being opposed to coronavirus restrictions, vaccines and mask mandates, Mr Enyart also courted controversy in the 90s for using his platform to read out the names of people who had died from AIDS while playing the song “Another One Bites the Dust", according to local media.
Freddie Mercury, the frontman of Queen, who sang that song, died after contracting HIV.
His co-host called Enyart, “exceedingly kind and humble, and always, always willing to listen and discuss anything you wanted”.
A number of people who have played down the threat of coronavirus have ended up dying from it. Enyart is at least the fifth anti-vaccine talk show host to die from complications of Covid in recent weeks.
Caleb Wallace, from Texas, died from Covid-19 last month. Mr Wallace organised rallies against “Covid tyranny” in 2020 as Texas was in lockdown and opposed masks.
Marc Bernier, a Florida-based radio host who called himself 'Mr Anti-Vax', died from the virus in August.
Sydney woman Katie Puffet revealed on TikTok last week she is Covid-positive, calling herself “silly” for thinking she would “never get it” because “it isn’t a thing”.
Dick Farrel, a Florida-based radio shock jock, died from Covid-19 earlier this month.
Farrel often spoke out against the vaccine and the Chief of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, Dr Anthony Fauci, calling him a "power tripping lying freak".
