Poor old Asda has had a bit of a 'bag for life' blunder on the Isle of White Wight.

The supermarket chain finally opened a store on the island on Monday (August 21), meaning the poor unfortunates who live there no longer have to swim to Portsmouth to get money off their weekly shop.

And, in honour of the Isle of Wight hitting the 21st century, Asda had some lovely specialty bags made for the occasion.

Prior to launching, Asda Newport held a competition for local children, who submitted a design for a custom 'bag for life'.

The design had to reflect the island's key landmarks, as well as what the kids liked most about their home.

After more than 300 entries were submitted, the winning image was chosen – and the victors were brothers Ryan Peterson (8), Oliver Peterson (6) and Ciaran Peterson (10).

However, the charming bag features rather an unsightly typo, which reads: "Isle of White."

And to make matters worse, it wasn't the fault of youngsters Ryan, Oliver and Ciaran, as their mother pointed out that Asda actually added the typo at a later date.

A spokesperson said: "This was a genuine printing error and we're in the process of reproducing the exclusive design to get back on sale as quickly as possible.

"We're hanging our heads for making such a silly mistake on our bags for life for our new Isle of Wight store."

It'd probably now be easier to just change the Isle of Wight's name to the Isle of White, rather than redoing all those bags...
