Aussie man's 'legendary' bin day move praised: 'As if you wouldn't stop'
The man was captured on camera frantically pushing his wheelie bin up the street before the truck slips out of view.
There are few moments more dreaded than waking up to the sounds of a garbage truck pulling up in front of your home — only to have the panicked realisation that you forgot to put out your bins the night before.
Haunted by the thought of having a pile of stinky rubbish for another week, most people have at least once made the mad dash out of bed to frantically drag their wheelie bins onto the street before the truck slips out of view.
For one man this week, it was his brutal reality — with the “legend’s” response to the painfully “relatable” problem leaving Aussies impressed.
In video footage taken by his partner from their driveway, the man can be seen “full on sprinting” while pushing his red bin to the rubbish truck emptying another resident’s container up the road.
Just as the “hero” reaches the vehicle, the driver starts to pull away but quickly stops after spotting the man desperately hauling his bin onto the lawn.
“He’s driving away. Oh he stopped — legend,” his partner Madison can be heard saying before bursting into laughter.
The truck driver then kindly empties the bin as the proud and relieved resident waves to thank him and gives Madison, who posted the clip on TikTok, a thumbs up.
“As if you wouldn’t stop. Never miss a bin day,” she captioned the clip, explaining that while the couple usually put their bins out the night before, they forget on “the odd occasion”.
Aussies applaud man's impressive bin move
Aussies have praised the man’s quick-thinking, and formidable “forwards push technique” and speed, with almost 400,000 people viewing the video in just three days. The majority said they felt like they were watching a snapshot of their own lives.
“The actual fear you feel when you hear the bin man coming down the street earlier than expected,” one person commiserated.
“The amount of times I’ve had to leap out of bed to do this is kinda of embarrassing, glad to see I’m not the only one,” another laughed, while someone else admitted they were “laying in bed listening to my truck pass at the moment”.
“I missed bin day last week for the first time ever and it’s ruined my entire month,” a frustrated Aussie vented. “We’ve all been there,” a person noted.
Aussie council's bin 'shaming' move leaves 'entire street offended'
Council worker praised by neighbours for 'legendary' bin act
Council enforces bin curfew laws with $312 fine
Others predicted a lot more people will soon be bolting down their streets as councils tighten their bin curfew laws.
Last week, Port Adelaide Enfield council warned several offending residents they could cop a $312 fine for leaving their empty bin out for too long. The council requires people to roll them out after 4pm on the night before rubbish collection and remove no later than 12pm the next day.
Mayor Claire Boan said the warning letters received by some residents are “rare” and the circumstances for them are “exceptional”. She told ABC Radio Adelaide they were likely prompted by complaints from a neighbour.
