Aust shares open almost 0.5 higher

Australian shares have finished higher despite giving up some of their early gains

The positive momentum on Wall Street, where the S&P500 closed above 7,000 for the first time, has spread to Australia's equities.

At 1015 AEDT on Thursday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 28.5 points, or 0.47 per cent, at 6,098.9 while the broader All Ordinaries index had gained 28.4 points, or 0.46 per cent, at 6,203.7 points.

In futures trading, the SPI200 futures contract was up 23 points, or 0.38 per cent, at 6,054 points.
