Australian teen TikTok star's last video before taking her own life
A community is in mourning after a teenage TikTok star took her own life.
Caitlyn Loane, 19, who lived in Latrobe on her family’s farm in northern Tasmania, used her social media account to promote women in agriculture.
Her videos often focused on her farm work – caring for cattle and sheep, growing vegetables, and posting jokes about country living. Some of them attracted as many as 500,000 views.
But tragically, her dad Phillip Loane told Mercury on Thursday his daughter had died.
“Words can’t describe our loss,” he told the paper.
Mr Loane described his daughter as “a lovely, crazy young woman”.
The Devonport Magpies, which Ms Loane was a member of, also paid tribute to her.
“The past week has put into context what really matters in life, and has reminded us all that football, as unifying as it is, is just a game after all,” it wrote.
“The priority of the Devonport Football Club at present is to provide an empathetic, supportive network to all associated with the club, with particular focus on those most affected by the tragic passing of Caitlyn.”
The last TikTok video she posted just days before her death had her lip syncing a country music song.
“How far would you drive for the girl of your dreams?” the song goes.
Ms Loane captioned the video: “Who’s driving to Tasmania?”
The video then featured a number of shots of Ms Loane working on the farm.
Viewers were also devastated by her death.
“Rest easy beautiful girl,” one woman wrote.
Another woman wrote Ms Loane’s smile “will be dearly missed”.
