A couple has gone viral around the world after the woman shared the awkward discovery she made when she and her husband decided to wear cute matching pineapple-themed swimwear during a holiday a few years ago.
Taking to TikTok to share the tale, user @Linjeanw said she thought it would be "cute" for the pair to wear matching swimmer before finding out that pineapples – particularly upside-down pineapples which were on her bikini – was the international symbol for swingers.
"Wearing matching pineapple swimsuits with my husband on vacation because I thought it was cute," she wrote on the clip which has since been viewed over 3M times.
"People were a little extra nice."
"Oops no one told me! #notswingers" she added in the caption.
According to Urban Dictionary, Pineapples are used by swingers to show when a party is happening.
"A pineapple is placed on a porch or mail box by swingers to signify that a swing party is going on," it explains, adding that upside-down pineapples on clothing can be seen as a signal for someone looking for a swingers party.
The video received hundreds of thousands of reactions with plenty of people losing it over the couple’s innocent mistake.
“Y’all walking around wondering why you are so popular,” one person wrote.
"You were putting out the vibe," another wrote.
Some even admitted they had done the same thing before, with one person writing: "I just realised I made my boyfriend wear a pineapple shirt and I wore a pineapple dress while on vacation two years ago."
Others said they had never heard about the pineapple 'rule' with some arguing it was only a joke.
"Pineapple stuff is too cute," one said.
"We are in the lifestyle and have been for years and the pineapple thing is more of a joke. We certainly don't assume and definitely don't approach random pineapples," was another response.
