Baby found dead in Melbourne home as woman fights for life

A baby has been found dead inside a Melbourne home along with a woman with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services received reports around 9pm on Friday night that an infant had been critically injured.

When they arrived at the property on Langdon Drive in Mernda, in the city’s north-east, the baby had died.

The woman was airlifted to hospital where she is now fighting for life.

Police have launched an investigation but say they’re not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

A local resident, who didn't know the family personally, laid flowers outside the home on Saturday morning.

“I just live in the area, we heard what happened and we felt that we needed to lay flowers,” she told the Herald Sun.
