A festival of illuminations is set to take place across Barnsley.

The Bright Nights event will feature a parade through the town centre, a Doctor Who-themed display and light installations by artists.

The festival takes place on Friday and Saturday, beginning with the Christmas lights switch on at 18:00 GMT at The Glass Works square.

Councillor Robin Franklin said he expected it to be "a magnificent event".

He said the illuminations aimed to bring "people from all over the region into our town centre, to celebrate and to support our fantastic local businesses, increasing footfall to all areas, whilst creating a vibrant atmosphere".

The festival is free and includes activities for children and families.
