Best for: When you’re feeling super fancy
What: To celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, Kona restaurant at the luxury Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences has created the most extravagant afternoon tea. Set on a Jubilee-inspired table with the finest china, each individual cake and sandwich has a clever royal connection.
To start, you’ll be presented with a delicately made strawberry and chocolate ice cream encased in a dainty golden carriage (which also happens to be edible). Then it’s onto the main event: from a classic quail egg and mustard cress sandwich named The Windsor to an open rye bread sandwich topped with smoked salmon, cucumber and lashings of cream cheese and a sprinkling of caviar called The Sandringham, there’s a delicious selection of savoury snacks. The intricately designed cakes, which include a hat-shaped Earl Grey and orange mousse Breton biscuit delight and an orb and sceptre shaped chocolate biscuit cake, are just as yummy, but make sure you save some space for the warm Cornish scones with Kona’s wonderful homemade jam and clotted cream.
To wash it all down, you can choose from Assam Tea, Earl Grey (thought to be the Queen’s favourite) or half a bottle of Bollinger, picked because the champagne house is a royal warrant holder. Is it an afternoon tea the Monarch would be proud of? We think yes.
How much: The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea from £70pp
