So far this year has been, well, quite something. So we couldn't be more thankful that through thick and thin The Great British Bake Off endures, and it's finally back. Last night, Channel 4 aired the first episode of the latest series which saw 12 brand new bakers take to the tent to compete for the chance to be the first star baker of 2020.

Last night's episode had it all; an unbelievably tense technical complete with frantic bakers wafting baking trays, great comedy from Matt Lucas's opening Boris Johnson skit and the hilarious celebrity busts the bakers made for their showstopper challenge (Freddie Mercury did not look his best). Plus there was a drama so big it's already rivalling #Bingate (when Sura accidentally knocked Dave's bakes off the gingham table right before the judges were due to come out to assess them). In Bake Off episode terms, it's what you might call 'A Classic Bake'.

Of course, the memes and comedy tweets have already started pouring in, and they're almost as good as the episode itself. Here are the best reactions to the first episode of The Great British Bake Off 2020...

First off, people really wanted to talk about #Cakegate...

There was also a lot of discussion surrounding the showstoppers...

Mostly people just loved the episode and are so happy that Bake Off is back...

We can't wait for the next episode.
