Big W has ignited a fashion frenzy among shoe enthusiasts with its latest summer drop – a $12 pair of chic cut-out slides that has prompted a buzz of excitement over their striking resemblance to a much pricier brand. The affordable find is drawing comparisons to the iconic Hermès Oran sandals, which will set you back a staggering $1,155.
TikToker Abbey O'Hagan ventured to her local Brisbane store in search of the $12 slides that have been touted as an alternative to the sought-after Hermès sandals. The French luxury label is renowned for its exquisite calfskin craftsmanship and iconic "H" cut-out. But with Big W's recent launch of women's "cut-out" slides in black, brown, and beige, luxury vibes can be accessible without breaking the bank.
“Big W has come through with Hermès sandal dupes,” Abbey said as she walked through the shoe aisle looking for the slides.
“Oh my god they are so cute and so nice," she exclaimed as she found them on the rack and started trying them on, "They’re literally the same!"
Abbey's video quickly racked up over 320,000 views, with shoppers raving about the remarkable resemblance, and praising the "cute dupes" that come with a modest $12 price tag. Many lauded the slides' comfort and style, with some users rushing to grab multiple pairs in different colours.
“I got both black and brown colours," one person commented, "they are actually so comfy. And so cute."
Another shared, “Bought them weeks ago and can confirm they are soo comfy," while a third added, “They’re so cute, love them, I got them too.”
While Big W's slides may offer a similar aesthetic, there are some notable differences. The Hermès sandals, meticulously crafted in Italy from premium calfskin, exude luxury from every angle. On the flip side, Big W's slides are crafted from synthetic materials, and although they sport a cut-out design akin to the Hermès, they lack the iconic "H" silhouette that distinguishes the luxury brand.
As a result, not everyone was entirely convinced by the slides, with several suggesting they look "cheap", and one outspoken person declaring, "we don't need to be slaves to shitty dupes."
Nevertheless, plenty of social media users admitted to rushing to their local Big W stores to snag a pair, with some even reporting the slides are so popular they have sold out at their local and online.
