Blackpink's Latest Music Video Has Already Made History

As promised, Blackpink is back with a new single, and their music video has already made history.

On Friday, the Korean band dropped the music video for their song, "How You Like That," and according to BBC, a total of 1.65 million fans tuned in for the unveiling, setting a new record for the biggest music video premiere on YouTube. (The record was previously held by fellow K-pop stars BTS in February.)

"How You Like That" is Blackpink's return after a year-long hiatus, save for their feature on Lady Gaga's "Sour Candy," off her Chromatica album.

At the time of writing, the music video had over 41 million views on YouTube. Last year, Blackpink became the first K-pop group to have a video reach a billion views on YouTube with their song, "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du."

"This might sound grand, but we wanted to give a hopeful message," the group told Time about the song. "In whatever dark times or situations we encounter, we want everyone to have the strength and confidence to be able to rise up again."

They added, "We believe that fashion plays a very important role when expressing our music. We feel like there is a synergy that really maximizes the power of our music when all of the vocals, emotions, dance, and fashion come together. Therefore, our stylists are very involved in the album-making process with us so that we are able to obtain the best results in terms of our fashion."
