Bobby Berk Shares the Secrets to His 20-Year Relationship with Husband Dewey Do (Exclusive)
The former 'Queer Eye' host and his husband began dating in 2004 and wed in 2012
Love is at the root of Bobby Berk and Dewey Do's 20-year romance.
While catching up with PEOPLE at the One House Toast to the Emmys event held at the Maybourne Beverly Hills on Thursday, Sept. 12, the Queer Eye alum, 43, shared the secret to their decades long relationship was to make every day with each other special. The couple started dating in 2004 and wed in 2012.
"It was our 20th [anniversary] in May, and him and I have never really been like anniversary people or birthday people," he says. "It's funny, we used to always laugh that neither of us knew it was our anniversary until Facebook would tell us."
The reason why the two don't typically remember holidays, says Berk, is because they "love to celebrate each other every day."
"You know, we love to just take a little weekend trip here and there," the interior designer explains. "We did just go to Ireland, and actually, around our anniversary, we were in Asia. So, yeah, I wouldn't say there was one specific thing we did for our anniversary, but we've always been the type of people. We celebrate each other every day."
When asked what has surprised him the most over their two-decade relationship, he jokes that it's the fact that Do "has stayed with me this long."
In a 2018 conversation with PEOPLE, the design expert revealed that Do was the one who proposed.
"I was surprised with a proposal and then before I could even think about planning a wedding, the wedding was happening then as well,” he recalled.

Following their wedding day, however, they experienced a "funny" mishap when they realized their friend who officiated the ceremony had never sent the correct legal documents.
"We found out at the end of the year when we were like, 'Why did we never receive our marriage certificate?' that technically we weren’t married," said Berk. "We had to frantically run to the courthouse in downtown New York City to get married before the end of the year to make sure our taxes were filed properly."
In June, Berk marked Do's birthday with a sweet Instagram tribute with photos from their various getaways.
