'Over the moon': Bowler's incredible Test-level County hat-trick

A Lancashire paceman has taken one of the best hat-tricks in modern cricket history after removing three Test batsmen in the County Championship.

England captain Joe Root, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and England’s Jonny Bairstow were the victims as Jordan Clark ran riot against Yorkshire.

With nearly 15,000 Test runs between the trio this was no mean feat for Clark.

“I was happy to get my first wicket, so to get three in a row, I was over the moon,” Clark told Lancashire’s website.

Root was the first to fall after an lbw appeal, and Clark trapped Williamson in the same fashion the very next delivery.

The hat-trick ball to Bairstow was sent down a little wider but it still worried the Englishman as he nicked off to the slips.

Hat-tricks high up the order aren’t unknown in international cricket but to dismiss two captains and a quality batsman in successive balls immediately vaulted Clark’s achievement up the rankings.

But was it the best ever? The man himself is unsure.

“I’ve no idea. It’s obviously up there because they are all top international players,” he said.

“Any hat-trick is great to get but getting those three makes it very special. It will live long in my memory.”
