The football documentaries we REALLY need to see made by Netflix and Amazon

Netflix and Amazon are buying football documentaries and they could do worse than to commission a few of these.

Juventus have done it, Manchester City are doing it and the legendary Graham Taylor maybe wished he hadn’t.

Football documentaries, if done properly of course, are fascinatingly gripping.

It’s the go-to place for behind-the-scenes footage and fly-on-the-wall access gives viewers an insight of what actually goes on behind those heavy dressing room doors.

Who could forget the Ol’ Big ‘Ead in I Believe In Miracles, or the famous ‘Do I Not Like That’ in The Impossible Job.

READ MORE: Three potential PSG managers

They don’t even need to have a budget to draw in football fans. Big Ron Manager, the 2006 car-crash production which saw the former Aston Villa boss act as trouble shooter at lowly Peterborough United, was so entertaining it saw the club purchased by Irish tycoon Darragh MacAnthony. Feeling sorry for the ailing League Two club, who came in, saved the day, and is still there today.

City may be next to hit our screens thanks to their £10m deal with Amazon, but what documentaries do we really want to see?

We’ve put together a list that the producers really must consider….

Neymar Uncovered: The world’s most expensive footballer has endured a difficult start to his PSG career – and we want to know why!

PSG – The Real Story

One of Europe’s great cities finally has a football team befitting of its status. But while Paris Saint Germain’s explosion onto the scene is a story on its own, the Neymar deal and mass fallings out would make the rocky road to possible Champions League glory in May a must-see. Get it made!

Mario Balotelli – Why Always Me?

Let’s be honest for a moment. Mario Balotelli’s ability is not in line with the amount of attention he receives. Just because you let fireworks off inside your home and because your car has been impounded 27 times, it doesn’t mean you’re actually a great player. But while he may not have the talent we’re led to believe he does, he has genuine character. Balotelli’s Best Bits should be signed off instantly.

Marcus Rashford – Growing Up Fast

Who doesn’t love a young Englishman fighting his way into a top club and showing staying power? While Manchester United are spending £75m on forwards, they’ve also got one with great potential for free. How did he get here, how did his family help his acceleration and what does the future hold. We need to know.

The Official Line – refs in the firing line

Mark Clattenburg’s decision to take the Saudi Arabian shilling rules him out, so step forward Michael Oliver. The young Premier League referee should be mic’d with cameras all over his body. Not only will the footage of the football be fantastic, but we’ll be able to see just what the official goes through. Some F Bombs may be dropped, but we’ll hire a bleep machine.

David Elleray once tried it and the results were astonishing.

Football Cribs – around the grounds

Based on the MTV show where rappers bore the world and his wife how rich and great they are, why not get footballers to take us behind the scenes of their club three hours before a game? Cameras follow their every move as they leave the car park to when they walk out on the pitch. The managers would hate the idea, but the club’s bean counters wouldn’t.
