Bride fuming after mother-in-law's shock news mid wedding

A bride has shared her anger after her mother in law shared a major announcement in the middle of her wedding day.

The 24-year-old woman took to Reddit to reveal the bombshell was dropped during the speeches, after her mother-in-law, who is 42, had asked to "say a few words".

"Stupidly we figured she would talk about us at our wedding, so we never asked what she planned to say. Big mistake," she said.

"She announced that she's expecting a baby."

The bride went on to say the announcement was a "huge shock" and "completely took over the night", before adding another cruel twist of fate.

Turns out she was also expecting and had planned to share the couple's happy news in her speech, but decided to ditch that idea because "everything felt a bit sour for me after that."

Understandably furious, the bride said she didn't speak to her mother-in-law for days, adding she "felt like the attention was taken away from us without our permission and it was so unfair to spring that on us."

"Apparently I ruined my own wedding because I was obviously p—d off about the good news and that I was being 'totally selfish'," she said.

"It was my wedding day that was already ruined by a pandemic!"

She said her husband was on her side, with plenty of other users online sharing their support.

"Wow, she could have at least asked your permission," one person wrote.

In a follow up post, it was revealed the newlyweds might be at the point of 'cutting ties' with his family, after an attempt to smooth things over didn't go so well.

The mother "apologised immediately" and "started sobbing", but still blamed the couple for ruining her pregnancy announcement, "so if anything we were both to blame".

"Eventually my husband told her that he was really happy about the baby but that she should have asked us, and she pointed at me and said "she wouldn't have let me" which just told us she knew EXACTLY what she was doing, and I have zero regrets now. We tried," she wrote.

"We did not mention our pregnancy at all.

"She still doesn't know, and we probably won't tell her ourselves because she doesn't deserve that."
