The bump that left Jack Riewoldt coughing up blood

Star forward Jack Riewoldt suffered an uncomfortable night on Sunday following Richmond’s defeat to West Coast due to the after-effects of a bump.

Fairfax Media reports Riewoldt was coughing up blood at three-quarter time after clashing with West Coast’s Liam Duggan late in the term.

The premiership player put pressure on Duggan as he kicked with a bump that drew a down-field free kick.

He immediately protested but was soon seen coughing and leaning down.

Early reports said Riewoldt was in doubt for Saturday’s clash with St Kilda but the Tigers believe he should be right to play.

Fairfax reported Richmond and Virgin Australia staff discussed Riewoldt’s situation before taking off for Melbourne.

The Tigers were defeated by West Coast, who leapt over the reigning premiers into top spot on the ladder.

Riewoldt kicked five goals and two behinds in the 47-point defeat.
