Operatic busker Maxwell Thorpe has been named as the current favourite to win Britain's Got Talent 2022, as the live semi-finals are about to start.

Bookies BetVictor have released their odds for who they expect to be crowned the winner of the series, bagging the prestigious opportunity to go on stage in front of The Queen at The Royal Variety Performance.

The clear favourite so far with odds of 10/3 is Sheffield busker Thorpe, 32, who left judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams amazed by his skilled operatic performance.

BetVictor spokesperson Sam Boswell said: "Maxwell Thorpe, who has been busking on the streets of Sheffield for the past 10 years, is the current 10/3 favourite. He impressed the judges with his spectacular performance of Lucio Dalla Caruso, receiving a standing ovation."

In joint second place according to the bookies are dance troupe Born to Perform, who won Walliams' Golden Buzzer, and singing teacher Tom Ball who both have odds of 4/1.

Ball has been likened to Susan Boyle after coming on stage to low expectations from the judges and audience, but blowing them away with his beautiful voice and talented performance.

With just one audition episode left to go on Saturday, the ITV contest is about to head into a week of live semi-finals starting on Monday and continuing over the week to Friday night.

Other acts currently in with a chance of victory include dance troupe The Freaks with odds of 8/1, choir The Front Line Singers at 10/1, and Voices of Armed Forces Children Choir at 20/1.

However, there is still plenty to play for with more auditionees set to make it through to the semi-finals in Saturday's episode and the unpredictable nature of the live shows.

This year's competition has included a mix of singers, dancers, dog acts, comedians and magicians, with some acts travelling from other countries to be in with a chance of being named the UK winner.

Britain's Got Talent continues on Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
