Cabinet appoints Matviy Bidnyi as acting Sports Minister

Matviy Bidnyi has been appointed as acting Sports Minister, having previously served as the deputy minister, the Cabinet announced on Nov. 9.

“At its meeting on November 9, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine passed a resolution to temporarily assign the duties of the Minister of Youth and Sports to the Deputy Minister, Matviy Bidnyi,” the government said in a Telegram post.

According to open-source data, Bidnyi has served as the Deputy Sports Minister since July 2020. Before that, he worked as an consultant to an MP and as the director of the department of physical culture and non-Olympic sports within the ministry.

On Nov. 9, the Ukrainian parliament voted to dismiss former Sports Minister Vadym Huttsait. MP Oleksii Honcharenko reported that during Huttsait's speech in the parliament, he announced he would continue working in the National Olympic Committee (NOC).

Huttsait had been the minister since March 4, 2020, and before that the director of the department of youth and sports at the Kyiv City State Administration. In November 2022, he became the new president of the NOC of Ukraine, succeeding Serhiy Bubka, who held the position for 17 years.
